Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation

Although Sister is, imho, their best album, this one deserves praise. The moment on the album for me is, however, when the big guitar hits in Kissability.

Well, I guess after I've experienced the urgency and claustrophobia of EVOL, Confusion is Sex, and Bad Moon Rising (and even Sister), and let them grow on me, I just don't find much reason to return to DN. I can see that, for the same reasons though, many would consider it the best album. Guess I just enjoyed the fractured quality and imperfections of their previous 80s material more.

My experience with DN has been that (and I by the way own it only on CD and have only ever heard it in that format) it didn't make sense to me as an album (tho I loved the tones) til I figured out which songs were on side 1, 2, 3, 4, and broke it up into 4 listening sessions that way. Then it hit me just right. Great record.

I love Daydream Nation, but it did take me a while to get into. It didn't happen until it "clicked" one day. I don't think I could have ever gotten into it if I hadn't heard Dirty first...I really feel like Dirty is the best way to start with Sonic Youth. Their other material (including DN) is much better than Dirty, but it helps to know what to expect from them and Dirty is really their most accessible.
