My son is 13 years old and has severe lower back pain going into is hip and leg. What could be the cause? Could it be from a growthspurt?

I am so sorry that your son is suffering from the wrath of back pain and he is so young. I strongly recommend that you take him into the doctor and have him evaluated. Back problems can develop at a young age like they did in my case. He probably neeRAB and MRI done which your primary care doctor can order. If he refuses insist that he be seen by a spinal surgeon (orthopedic doctor with a spinal fellowship of at least 2 years) so that his case can be worked up to make sure that this is nothing serious.

Good luck and please keep us psoted.

I strongly agree with pepper! You need to at least "rule out" something serious. I pray that it is just a "growth spurt" and that your son will be fine and growing strong...By the way, welcome to the boarRAB!

He's right at the age when scoliosis can rear its ugly head. It can be easily checked by your family doctor. Like you said, it could just be from growing, but the pain down the leg seems unusual. I would get him checked out. Start with your family doctor and go from there.

I hope it's nothing serious, just growing pain.

Thanks for the update...that is great news! I am thankful that it wasn't something more serious. I pray that he continues to heal and will feel better soon!

I hope he feels better soon. If it continues, I would definitely insist on xrays and an MRI be done. Better to stay on top of it so he does not do anything to further injure himself. Good luck and I pray that this is the end to his problems.
