car: 1997 Ford Escort Wagon LX, manual transmission
I only use my car a few times a week. This week, the temperature dropped below zero, and after 3 or 4 days of it sitting in the parking lot, I took it for a spin and:
I went to pull away, the handbrake was clearly still engaged, even though I disengaged it. I could feel pull on rear tires, and loud squeeking, but I could still drive. As I increased in speed, at about 60km/hr it seemed to go back to normal. The problem recurred after I left my card for another couple of days in the cold, and this time it seems to be worse.
What might be the problem, and is there something I can do to temporarily fix this until next paycheque?
With instruction, I am willing to put a day's work into fixing something myself.
