Something is wrong

Hello everyone,

I am writing this post because I know something is wrong with me and yet no one seems that every doctor that I go see come to a conclusion that everything is fine. This has been going on for a very long time so I guess if I start by writing a bit about myself it will help me. I am a 24 year old male that has graduated from university just about a year ago. For the past 4 years I have noticed my health has been steadily declining. The three main problems that I have been having is constant fatigue, lack of concentration and intolerance to cold. There are of course other symptoms that I have been experiencing and I will mention them as I go on. One thing I should mention is that I weigh approximately 145 pounds and have had this weight for a very long time. It seems that no matter how much I work out, what I eat and how much I sleep I can never gain more. I always told myself that my metabolism must be good and stuff but perhaps there is something else that is wrong? So it seems that gaining weight seems to be hard, yet I can

doctors are always quick to assume that it's psychological when your symptoms don't match the bloodwork. to me, it doesn't sound like you have adhd, anxiety or depression (i have all). something to think about it hyperthyroidism. it explains the intolerance, the immune system, innability to gain weight, but easily lose. a primary doctor might look at your numbers and say your fine, but everyone's body is different. like, my aunt has hypothyroidism, and her doctor said everything was okay. she then went to someone who specialises in it. like, for a regular blood test they usually just measure the tsh, but they should get all these included to get the big picture:
Free triiodothyronine (fT3)
Free levothyroxine (fT4)
Total T3
Total T4
24 hour urine free T3

That is good point about thyroid issues, because a routine blood test often will NOT identify a thyroid issue. Usually they need to do a more in-depth test, as hypo- or hyper-thryoidism often isn't identified from a basic test. However, usually hypder-thyroidism does NOT make you tired. Usually it's hypo- that will do this. Still, it's something you might want to look into if you have some of the symptoms. Perhaps the stress you feel is more of what is making you tired.

I've noticed that as I became in my 20's of age (I am 23 years old, female), my concentration has been getting worse as well. I notice that I also have much more allergies, feel bad more often, don't feel as energetic, and am stressed easily. Sometimes I just don't feel as much excitement in life. To be honest I do know that my mom feels a lot like this way too, so I think some of it runs in the family. I get pressure on my head quite often, and am migraine prone. I get dizzy easily, which is either related to sinus pressure or an inner ear imbalance. I also feel tired after a good night's sleep and get close to enough sleep most of the time. I wonder if I don't sleep WELL due to the allergies. I wonder if this may be possible for you too since we have a lot of similar symptoms? I don't notice myself waking up a lot due to allergies, but maybe it does disturb sleep a little bit. My mom told me that she developed more allergies as she got older, so I feel that the same thing is happening to me. I'm even more sensitive to certain foods.

I DO have anxiety and have struggled with depression in the past. I have been doing great with the depression by making lifestyle changes and getting a lot of exercise to increase my confidence and reduce stress. I feel much better, but like I mentioned, sometimes I just don't feel "excitement" in my life as much. I started taking Prozac because I felt pretty anxious and it was stressing me a lot, and I feel happier from taking it too. I noticed that I do feel much calmer and can deal with stressful situations much better. I took Cymbalta in the past and it just made me feel "numb" but luckily Prozac doesn't do this to me. Unfortunately the Prozac doesn't help at all with my attention and I am extremely forgetful! I just feel that I'd rather feel happy, so I continue to take it. I just have to write everything down and carry a planner around with me at all times!

Hey,

It seems we are pretty much going through similar problems. One thing that my doctor said that might be wrong is my sleep. She wants to do a sleep Apnia test for me however she told me she want's me to go talk to a psychologist before we proceed with the tests. She basically want's to rule out that its depression or ADD. I personally don't this this is my issue.

My girlfriend told me last week that during my sleep I grind my teeth. I did some research related to this and this disorder is called bruxism. Supposedly if this occurs the person is more prone to headaches, vertigo, poor sleep, waking exhausted, stress and tension, depression and other issues. The possible physical and psychological causes may be anxiety, supressed anger or frustration, change that occur during sleep cycles and complications resulting from a disorder such as huntington's or parkinson's disease. I hope that the issue i am having isn't the beginning of that disease.

As mentioned in the above post, i do believe that the issue I am having might be related to some sort of sleeping disorder.

I will keep an eye out of symptoms and post them here.

The input you guys gave is great!

If you don't get enough sleep, it can create all sorts of problems. I had sleep apnea and never knew it until one day, I woke up with NO energy and I have more energy than the average person. When I say I had NO energy, I mean NO. the long and the short was I had sleep apnea and it had caught up with me. Had I known I had it, I would have done something about it. Sleep apnea, if not taken care of can definitely effect your thinking and energy. I also have HORRIBLE allergies and allergies can throw you off balance due to the inner ear, give you foggy thinking and make you walk like the city drunk. so, my advice to you is: Check out the sleep apnea and get tested for allergies. Hope this is of some help and good luck.
