Something is wrong with my bf's car?

So, I have no idea about anything when it comes to cars and this really wierd thing has been going on with his car. When he started it and put it in reverse today, it started to make a sound that kinda sounded like crickets. After putting it in foward and driving for about a minute, it went away. Is that normal? The car started to do this a few days ago.
It's a 01 saturn.
And in this economy, it's alittle hard to run to the mechanc for every noise when it couldnt just be fixed at home. Thank you anyway.
 
So far, the only thing wrong with it, is your boyfriend.

As soon as it acted up, he should have taken it into a mechanic.

As it is, it sounds like he's attempting to still drive it, which is just making the problem worse, whatever it is.

Edit: in this economy, everyone is tight on money. Which means FIX IT NOW BEFORE IT BECOMES A BIGGER PROBLEM.

People always skimp on the little stuff, then wonder why they have to pay so much more when it becomes worse....tell him to get his act together, and just fix it.

And no, he's not going to be able to fix it at home.

But go ahead and drive it anyway. Instead of a tranny fix, it will be a whole new tranny needed....and that will be 10x as much in repairs.
