Something i dont get about cartoon villains

Where do the cartoon villains get all their money exactly to have such elaborate hideouts and weapons? They usually dont get away with robbery attempts so that cant be it. Ironically, GI Joe actually did come up with an answer (Tomax and Xamot had a legitimate business front for Cobra known as Extensive Enterprises, which is probably how Cobra got the money for their technology).

Well, which cartoon villains are you talking about?

David Xanatos received a 10th century coin worth $20K from his future self time traveling and the Illuminati, invested it carefully, and built up his multinational corporation, Xanatos Enterprises.

Demona has hoarded treasures through the millenium. As has Macbeth. Thailog stole $20 million from Xanatos, and set up his own corporation, Nightstone Unlimited.

Now, let's see, who else is there?

Norman Osborn runs OsCorp, and is a multi-millionaire. Tombstone ran a successful criminal empire as well has his business fronts which made him money.

Lex Luthor ran LexCorp.

Ra's al Ghul probably also hoarded treasures through his six hundred years of life and built up a gigantic fortune.

The list goes on...

Well......independant funding of course!

Eh, the great thing about cartoons is that I can sit back and not ask questions such as this, I can let go of reality and shrug my shoulders at questions that bring the these kind of questions to light. I tell myself 'It's just a cartoon' and then I can scrap these questions in favor of getting lost in the action and the story.

I find myself over analyzing with questions such as these when it comes to anime more so than with American cartoons for some reason, maybe it's because most anime takes itself more seriously than your typical cartoon does.

My favorites are when they created advanced technological breakthroughs and expensive machinery and weapons to steal something worth far less than what they've invested or what the value of their technology would be if they just patented it.

The Trapster has appeared in Fantastic Four Cartoons so I'm counting him. He's the poster boy for this. He invented revolutionary new adhesives and solvents worth millions and thought, "Gee, I guess I'll go use this for crime."

1. It IS just a cartoon and thus unless it takes itself seriously like Avatar it will be allowed to pass
2. Villains wouldn't be as effectively menacing and tvworthy characters if they consisted of street thugs and schoolyard bullies
3. As gregX pointed out some (like Doofenshmirtz, another example i can think of) have legitimate business operations as well as their evil life

Also backstories are rarely in depth, and thus it would be easy to create an explanation in most cases. Inheritance and disillusionment for example

I agree. Seriously, I honestly don't care about the level of realism in cartoons when it comes to certain things like the size of the villain's bases or how they managed to design a gun that can shoot metal balls that extend spikes. To me, as long as the story is enjoyable and the characters are relatable to, or as long as the story is true to the material is based off of, nothing else really matters. Because honestly, when it all boils down, you can poke logic holes in the vast majorty of entertainment. That's why it's entertainment - it's a fantastical escape from the real world, which is rather boring in comparison. In fact, if cartoons maintained a high level of realism, then I don't think they really would really appeal to nearly as many people. :p

YES. So dumb. XD

I think Dr. Drakken ran into funding issues on Kim Possible a couple of times - which was fun 'cause it addressed a real issue, in addition to being completely silly. :p

Some villains steal the technology they need for their machines and other things from either companies or other villains... Or heck, sometimes it may be the money that they get for their bank robberies and stuff...

However, Shawn Hopkins hit the nail on the head with villains that develop cutting age technology years ahead of its time and use it to...rob a bank... Some have their reasons for not just patenting their inventions (Vulture from Spectacular Spider-Man couldn't because Norman reviewed it, stole it, and announced the thing to the world as Norman's invention), but still... However, I do kind of like that because it is kind of a hilarious analyzation.

Aren't there also a lot of villains that ARE big corporations (Or part of one)?

Although I doubt Mojo Jojo had a side job of some sort, now that you mention it. :/
