I'm 16 and about to get a car. Since I can remember a red jeep wrangler has been my dream, and I'm still very set on getting one. I like the old school ones better with the tent-material tops that you can take off and bam it's a convertible ;]. I need to know how good of a car this would be for me. I know red vehicles are more expensive on insurance so I may settle for silver. either way what are the ups and downs for jeeps? i don't drive anywhere far away so i won't be spending alot on gas. Anyhow i know nothing about cars so someone who does and can give me tips would be my hero.
Cost to buy maybe a used one?
good things and bad about jeeps.
insurance cost.
are they good cars?
etc.

i've owned (& abused) 6 jeeps and am now building my 7th. they're a lot of fun & if you take care of them, pretty dependable. i will be the first to tell you that if you are rough on it, it will be rough on you! jeeps, even with a hardtop, are going to be bad on insurance. with their high center of gravity and lack of metal around the passengers, insurance companies hate them. overall, if you don't mind the money for the insurance, don't abuse it, and want to enjoy the wind blowing through your hair, a wrangler is a lot of fun!

jeeps are a good, reliable, and somewhat economic ride. They're fun to drive and have the nice options of removable top, doors and a fold down windshield. They have 4 wheel drive in case the need arises, and they're built tough.

however let's discuss the down side to them as well.

They have a convertable top: Bad if caught with the top down in the rain,Drafty, even with the top up(makes for a chilly drive in the winter,if you live in an area that experiences that kind of weather),and are of no protection in a roll-over accident.

jeeps do not handle like a car and cannot take curves as stable as a car, hence making them more prone to roll-over accidents.

But in all, they are a fun, reliable and noticable ride.
Truthfully, if you really like the jeep, learn to drive a regular car or truck
first, then when that's mastered, get your dream jeep and enjoy it safely.
