someone who is good with working verizon blackberrys, can you help me?

i just got a blackberry off of ebay. i use verizon wireless. it works, turns on and works fine. the only problem is i can't activate my number into the phone. i dial *228 and it doesn't even going through. it always ends up saying that the activation was unsuccessful. can someone please help me??

also, my dad and i went to verizon and tried to activate it and it wouldn't activate. and the seller won't refund my money :(
