Hi, I am a 16 year old male from England and I have recently found out that I have got something called Exercise Induced Urticaria. It is a condition where whenever I exercise, I get extremely itching all over my body (including face and skull) and I get a rash all over (apart from face), the itchyness also comes on whenever. Basically, it sound like im allergic to my own sweat. It is awful and it feels as if I can never do anything that makes me sweat ever again. I always enjoy playing sport and going to the gym and it feels as if my life has been ruined. People always so to just play through it and ignore the itch and rash, but I cant since the itch is so intese, I bite my own hand very hard on purpose since I prefer pain to the horrible itch (im not a self harmer by the way, there is nothing emotional behin this, I just cant stand the itching feeling). I have also looked around on the internet and there doesnt seem to be any cure to the condition.
The itch during exercise has been going on for 5/6 mounths now, however, it has just recently got worse and a rash has appeared whenever I exercise in the last few weeks. I have had Eczema all of my life, however, it has gotten better a lot in the last few years and is bearly noticable. I had it very bad when I was little though (4-13 years old). Another thing is my Dad has hyper-sensitive skin and he seems to have passed this feature onto me, he had something similar a few years back, but he is OK now.
About 6-7 mounths ago, I started taking Oxytetrycyline for acne and also started using a face cream that seems to dry my face out. I was wondering if these could be having an effect. I have also been drinking/eating a lot of milk, cheese and dairy products recently (3-4 times more than usual), but I have been eating/drinking these for 16 years and I havnt had any problems.
Anyways, I have been to my doctors yesterday and he has prescibed me Anti-Histamines to be taken 3 times once a day. As of yet, they have had no effect, Does anyone know how long these take to work and if they work?
I was also wondering if anyone else has ever had or heard of something like this and how long it took to pass. It has put a massive hle in my life that I want to fill as soon as possible and it is really starting to get me down.
Thanks for any help.
