Someone apparently swallowed and bike(regular bike). Did this happen?

I am somehow doubting that this actually happen and the person would be alive. I cannot find the source, but it apparently was not a toy bike?
 
This was on the show Ripley's Believe it or Not during the 80's. The guy had to have it broken down into smaller tiny pieces that he would swallow with glasses of water. The whole stunt took him several days and caused him several health problems before he was done.
