Hello,

I am buying a BB Pearl in the next week and I have some questions. I am unclear to these as I see many different answers on threads and reviews, and even TMO reps cannot give me clear answers. I have myfaves 600 and 4.99/mo text. I am only planning to put email on the BB NOT internet. I understand that I can only send texts and not pic messages. Can I send pics through the email or do I need the internet? The other thing is on my phone now I have AIM Yahoo ICQ. I use AIM all the time. Do I need the internet for this as well and/or does the Pearl already have this app.

I have sooooo much to learn about this device. I know this is what I want but before making the purchase I want to make sure all my questions are answered, I am paying full price because I am not elgiable for an upgrade till Aug. But at this time my life calls for a PDA and I cannot wait. I think that this is the best one for me......we'll see.

Thanks in advance!!

From what I see on the TMO webiste, I can do a BB unlimited email add on. I'm assuming that means it's added on to the plan I have now?

Yes that will add 9.99 to your plan now. And I think you can add a free add on to send pictures with out the internet. I forget what its called but I had it for a while.

$9.99 BB email feature will give you the ability to
send and receive email
send and receive mms
send and receive IM
get access to tzones (tzones only no browsing)
+ all the normal things you can do on the BB without a data feature.

the BB email feature is considered a BB data feature

and AIM is already available on the BBs via OCZ instant Messaging but it uses SMS to send and receive IMs so careful with that if you don't have unlimited...but if you get the 9.99 BB e-mail then you can use jive-talk instead

Jive talk is a 3rd party IM client that people here say is the best around. I have not used it personally, but i do not IM much. Here is the link for jivetalk

I would be careful about recommending any data product to use with the 9.99 BB plan t-mobile is offering. The 9.99 package is EMAIL ONLY, not data. It is for those users that do not want full data but would still like to be able to receive email and use the email capabilities in a BB device. For data, you have to bump up to the 19.99 BIS package which will then provide you with unlimited data and email. As for the built in IM application, I would check the user manual or BB's website and dig deep. Some use SMS, some use data. Jivetalk if I remember right uses data. Yahoo uses data if you download the messenger from their website, not sure what the built in client uses. OZ uses SMS for all it's messages. And remember, it counts for INCOMING and OUTGOING not just outgoing.

By the way the bb enabler is a data plan (though obviously extremely limited) just an fyi. For mms and IM to work you need to be activated in RIM's network. That's what the enabler does.

but it's a free add on and costs nothing but allows people with only SMS text plan to be able to send/receive MMS that way they get full functionality out of their BBs with cameras...hope this helps clear the air

Any BB can use the enabler, not just those with cameras. I was going to add that to my Pearl until I found out it doesn't cover JiveTalk, full web browsing, Face Book, Yahoo, Google Talk, and PIN messaging (via Compose PIN and BB Messenger). I don't need email.
