some questions regarding ebay phone purchases

My RAZR recently went swimming in a pool.. =( I like the phone and would like to just get another one. I'm only one year into contract, so not eligible for any upgrade yet.

I could buy the phone new and unlocked from Amazon for $190, which would give me a solid 30-day return policy in case anything went run. But looking at the prices on ebay makes me hesitate to pay that much, when on ebay I see them for as low as $150's.

How careful should I be about buying a new RAZR from ebay? Also I have read there are some concerns about unlocked RAZR's not working well with Cingular's web/internet functions. Is this simply a case of the phone not being properly configured yet for a carrier's specific settings (WAP, IP, etc.)? If that's the case I"ll have no problem, but is there something else in terms of imcompatability? Finally, are there any known reputable ebay sellers/shops that are a good place to start?

I would think it would work fine more or less internet wise, you would just need cingular wap (or alternative) settings to make it work correctly, apart from that there is nothing that cingular does to the phone to make it work on their network...All they do is add their software and maybe tweak the gui to their liking (ie when you turn it on it splashes you with the Cingular logo and Splat thingie)

Even if you couldn't get the settings right, how useful is internet really on a cell phone? Its cramped enough for my liking on a pocket pc, I dont even know how people deal with it on cell phones (but to each their own). Either way I am almost 99 percent sure you could get it to work if you had the settings (try calling cingular or visiting a store and asking).

As far as the phone capabilities, you will have no problems as an unlocked moto is entirely compatible with cings network. Just make sure you have either your old sim (or if it was ditched with your swimming phone) or a new one that cingular has setup (unless you work for cingular and are privy to setting it up on their system yourself). So, to sum it up, you should be fine, just dont get one with only a japanese (or, insert language here) character set....that would make things a little...tough
