I don't want to seem too old here but when I took my motorcycle driving test, I had to know these signals, and since my first bike, a '67 BMW R69S did not have turn signals, I used them for years. It had a brake light, though.

Tapping the helmet has meant a cop for as long as I can remember...

Flashing the headlight/ bright lights... Is illegal in most states.
Flash an on coming cop and test to see if it is illegal in your state.
