Some Good FUNi Deals At Best Buy

Not sure if this applies to all Best Buys in the nation, but at my local stores, some of the FUNi Viridian titles appear to be even lower than they normally are. On Saturday I saw Desert Punk vol. 5 and 6 for a mere $5.99! I believe Negima and Basilisk were cheaper, too.

Our resident BB expert DBZALLSTAR could probably fill us in with more accurate info, but just thought I'd bring it to your attention.

Thanks for mention, Speedy. These DVRAB were reduced near the end of February, along with select volumes of Trinity Blood, Mushishi, Beck, Full Metal Alchemist, Glass Fleet, Dragon Ball Z Movie 12: Fusion Reborn ($8.99) and the School Rurable Starter Set tin ($13.99!). I apologize for not mentioning it. I honestly thought someone would have posted it in the What Did You Get This Month thread. I will post a more complete list tomorrow.

You're welcome. So how long do these prices (specifically the $5.99 Veridian ones) last? I'd like to take advantage of them if they're only for a limited time.

Well, that depenRAB on how quickly you, the customer, purchase them. Usually with anime, the product in question is switched to deleted status once a price drop is instituted. Once all of the copies currently available of said product in the store are purchased, that's it. Once a product switches to deleting status, the store will not receive additional quantities under normal circumstances. The only exception is if that product is featured in an ad for a sale.

There's another answer for how long the sale will last, but it's not necessarily beneficial for the customer. Every once in a while, product is sent back to the distribution center, to make room for newer product, because the product is being discontinued, because there is a better edition/version of the product being released, because there are too many copies of that product, or because that product is not selling fast enough or at all. Usually, in the case of anime, there isn't much to send back, but then again, anime isn't reduced in price very often. There's a slight chance that the reduced pricing could be an indication that that product might be reaching the end of its life on the shelf. I'm not saying that this is what is going to happen, just that it is a slight possibility. I would much rather see anime go home with a customer than get sent back to the distribution center. I'm not saying this because I want people to spend money, though that I guess is a benefit. I'm saying this because out of all of the sections in our Media department, I take the greatest pleasure in the anime section. Maybe it's because no one else seems to appreciate it like I do. Then again, none of the other employees have a Best Buy shirt that has "Animeniac" (copyright ) sewn on it. So please folks, adopt some anime. Give it a loving home where it can be viewed over and over again and displayed with pride.

So, yeah...I'll post the list tomorrow. If you have any more questions in the meantime, let me know. I will be more than happy to help, but you might have to prepare yourself for yet another answer with more information than you could possibly want.

A lot of the Starter Sets dropped to $15.99: Beck, Solty Rei, Moon Phase, Hell Girl, Glass Fleet, and a couple others. I think it's pretty cool for some people, but there are those of us who spent more than that on them, you know!
I'm just kidding. As long as it gets purchased as opposed to getting shipped back, it's all good, for the customer and the person who farms (cleans/straightens up/pimps out) the section. I hate sending back anime. I don't know why. It just makes me very sad.

That would explain how my friend got BECK's first volume + box for 16 bucks. Nice for him, but I think I spent between 25 to 30 on that so I'm feeling a bit burned right now. Still, I don't regret getting that box when I did. It's getting harder to find the other volumes now so if I got it now I might have had a heck of time tracking down all of them. Where as when I bought it I got 5 at the same time and just waited for the sixth to be released.

That was a 50% sale that ran until April 5th. It included Dragon Ball Z Season Four: The Garlic Jr./Trunks/Android Sagas, Elfen Lied: The Complete Collection/The Diclonus Report (Thinpak), Full Metal Alchemist: Season Two, Part Two, Mars Daybreak: The Complete Collection, Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum: The Complete Collection (Thinpak), Noein: To Your Other Self Complete Series, Samurai Deeper Kyo: The Complete Series W/Gameboy Advance Game, and Tokko: The Complete Series. I don't think there was a bad deal in the bunch.

I'm heading off to work now. I will return this afternoon and post a more complete list of the reduced anime volumes.

We bought Noein after my wife saw an episode on SciFi and thought it looked wicked cool, but how the heck did I miss Evangelion at half off? Arg! That's one of those series that I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I haven't seen yet.

My local BB had an even steeper discount on the Glass Fleet boxed set to $10 and change. I was convinced it was because Maxie Zeus gave it such entertaining bad reviews.

Well the BB in Everett, WA is selling volumes 2-6. But hopefully I'll be able to get this in it's complete set. Which I'll trade in some of my older sets for this.

Hey, if your Best Buy was like mine, Eva most likely was totally sold out when it was on sale.

Cool stuff here, but any luck for the Yu Yu Hakusho volumes? It just seems to me like paying $30 for them is way too much, but I really need to start collecting it soon.

From now on, I will post changes as soon as they appear. Gomenasai. I thought someone would have posted this by now, otherwise I would have posted this sooner. Remeraber that these new prices are company wide, but not all stores actually post the new prices, due to laziness, forgetfulness, or what have ya. Once these items go through their current stock, they are gone. Best Buy does not reorder product (tried it once, did not work out), and no rainchecks are available because these DVRAB are not in a circular/ad. Once they're gone, they're gone.

Speaking of gone, I have also decided that I will be posting the anime that is being sent back. I will not post the quantities, as they vary by store. The items listed in bold are now in deleted status, and Best Buy will not be receiving additional quantities.
Today, I sent back the following to the distribution center:
Ai Yori Aoshi/Ai Yori Aoshi-Enishi: The Complete Series

So, yeah... I think Best Buy has finally bid Geneon a fond farewell. Not a single Geneon title is left in my anime section. It is both a good and bad thing. I am glad because no one was buying any of it, but I am also sad because the DVRAB were the remnants of a great company. Also, I just hate sending anime back, period.

I will keep everyone updated on any future price changes and send backs/pulls for anime. Let me know if any of you have any questions, concerns, etc. That's what Animeniac/DBZALLSTAR is here for.

Of the items in that list, I'm interested in Basilisk v. 3 & 4, Desert Punk v. 5 & 6, and School Rurable starter set (WHAT A DEAL!).

As for Geneon, good thing I already own the items from that list I wanted.

I get the impresion that RightStuf, or one of the other closeout dealers online, will be getting a lot of stuff to dump out the doro real soon. If I wasn't so dang broke I'd buy some stuff.

I promised to post any new price changes in anime made at Best Buy, and I will continue to fulfill that promise. I marked down another group of FUNimation anime today.

Basilisk Volume Five of Six: Shades of Night (Re-Release; Viridian Collection) Was $14.99 Now $9.99

Tsubasa Volume Four of Six: Between Death and Danger Was $24.99 Now $9.99
Yu Yu Hakusho Collection Seven of Eight: Seven Sins Was $29.99 Now $14.99

Darklordavaitor should be happy about that last price reduction. Thirty dollars for thirteen episodes of Yu Yu Hakusho was already reasonable. At fifteen dollars, this collection is a steal.

I don't understand why FUNimation is having Best Buy reduce the prices of so many of their anime, especially since many of the volumes I reduced today were only recently released. It kind of sucks for the anime fans who had already purchased these volumes. I am glad that those who waited are able to save some money, though.

I'll continue to post price reductions as they occur.

Also, after almost six years of merabership at Toon Zone, I've reached 700 posts.

Odd that only volume 7 of YYH is on sale, but I'm not complaining.

Hey, any of these titles happen to be anything like Eva or Higurashi, ie worth my time?
