of health care? Some estimates are that malpractice costs are between 5-9% of the entire costs of health care, though these numbers have been questioned by the Congressional Budget Office. There has been some political movements to control these costs by implementing tort reform that would limit malpractice "pain and suffering" to $250,000. Would you support such and effort?

I think there should be a cap on how much lawyers can make from a malpractice suit. John Edwards has made millions suing doctors. Malpractice costs much more than 10% since we end up getting dozens of tests just to cover the chance that it is something other that what is completely obvious. I had a sinus problem and my treatment was delayed for months to try to avoid surgery.

There is a spiral for malpractice suits. The doctors pay a huge amount for the insurance and then the suits go after the doctor to be punitive, not to fairly compensate the patients for their suffering. This makes it very attractive for a patient to sue even if their case is without merit. Many lawyers will start a case in the hope of settling out of court since it takes a huge amount of time to mount a defense to prove the doctor was not being negligent.
