How to solve these "System of equations" using Substitution method. How do you do that?

x + y = 0
3x + y = -4

Additional detail: The 6 steps to solve them is:

Step 1. Solve one equation for either variable, you choose. Sometimes this is even done for you.
Step 2. In the other equation, replace the variable from step 1 with what it equaled.
Step 3. Solve for the other variable. This time you should get a number.
Step 4. In the first equation, replace the second variable with the number you just found.
Step 5. Solve for the first variable we found. This time you will get a number also.
Step 6. Write your answer as an ordered pair (x, y).

I would appreciate it if you could explain it more.
