A father and son are riding on highway near Salt Lake. The vehicle loses control and they are injured and rushed to the hospital emergency room. The boy is in need of a life-saving procedure. The doctor enters the room and says, "I cannot treat this patient. He is my son."

How could this be?
Easy 10 points! This is an old riddle that taught me a lesson in sexism. I was hoping that either close-minded ppl or ppl who hadn't heard this b4 would be the first to answer :-l. I threw the part about Salt Lake City in there to throw u off so you might think it was related to Mormonism or polygamy. Bummer. But i gotta choose a best answer.
 
The mother could be the doctor, or some unforseen thing that I couldn't predict
 
Either the doctor is his mom OR his dad isn't the real dad OR the dad did not get injured badly and he was a doctor.
