Solomon Kane

Thanks for that you've convinced me to not see it lol. I didn't want to see it anyway it was my OH but the trailer didn't even capture my attention so i've put it off all week.
My saving grace is that Shutter Island is out this week and Alice in Wonderland next week by the time we've a free week it'll be out of the cinema :) yay

IMO it was much much better than the wolfman film and I'm pretty certain the original character pre-dates Rambo by about 60 years

As I said everyone has their own opinion. You are correct the character does pre-date Rambo and I thought of that as I wrote it. However the actual theme is hard to find in any films around the time the book was written. Also my analogy stanRAB that the actual, renounces violence and returns to it through force is an over used storyline not justin Rambo. The Patriot (Mel Gibson) is another one. Even Superman II is similar. He walks away from being Superman but is forced to once again become him. It's very cliche.

As far as the Wolfman comparrison. That was based on an anticipated film that is going to be something special and one of the better films of the year but turns out to be, good but not great and quickly forgetable.
A few weeks ago I saw a few films in one week. The Wolfman, Astro Boy, Edge of Darkness and Sherlock Holmes. Of those I remember more Holmes than the others, then more Edge of Darkness and slightly more Astro Boy than Wolfman.
48 hours after seeing this film it's fading from memory. If the film is as good as the trailer it shouldn't be forgotten this quickly.
