Solomon Kane

"Solomon Kane", a "vanquisher of evil in all its forms", was originally created by Robert E Howard (creator of the more famous "Conan").

And now there's a movie...

James Purefoy ("Mark Antony" in the excellent "Rome") plays the title character, plus the movie also stars Max von Sydow, Rachel Hurd-Wood, & Pete Postlethwaite.

Directed by Michael J. Bassett (Deathwatch).

It's released in the UK on 5th February 2010.

Purefoy on Breakfast shortly plugging this eagerly awaited (by me at least!) movie. Love the Howard stories and very much liked Deathwatch so my hopes are high for this.

I know nothing about this character but the trailer looks really good. When it opens I'll be going to see this one. It will be interesting to see how well it does compared to The Wolf Man.

The trailer looked interesting. It looks like a good 'leave your brain at home' film.

Not sure about Purefoy's West Country accent though. It doesn't really add anything to the character and is a bit distracting.

Doubt I will get to see this as it's being chopped from my cineworlRAB listings after the weekend. And the only time I can see it before it goes is at 11pm on Saturday or Sunday, very much doubt I will be!

As I say to anyone that asks that kind of question. Try it and see what you think because everyone has their own likes, dislikes and opinions.

As far as my thoughts. I found it a bit boring. The trailer is better than the film. It's very slow in places and is a story that has been done to death. Person who was bad/evil turns his back on what he was wanting to live the rest of his life in peace. Then finRAB himself in a situation where he has to go from being a man of peace into a violent man again. If that sounRAB like Rambo, it's not that far off the same concept.
The acting was so-so. Some of the special effects seem quite average. I would put this in the same camp as the recent The Wolf Man film. It had promise but failed to deliver and was an average movie. I saw it on Tuesday and I'm already forgetting it. I would give it 5/10
