Solaris - don't waste your money!

What an utter load of crap! The trailer looked quite good so we hired it on DVD last night. My advice is don't bother. Use you're cash on something more worthwhile. George Clooney not at his best, bad unbelievable story rubbish effects!

Got to agree. We hired it the other night and it started then finished and nothing happend in-between.

Another one that had all the ingredients for a good film was 'About Schmidt'. Golden Globe and Oscar nominations, reviews on the back of the rental (by creditable reviewers) saying it was the dogs b******* and Jack Nicholson in the staring role, what more could you ask for? Maybe I'm missing something with some of these critically acclaimed films but 'about Schmidt' was a waste of our evening.

I'm an absolute real SCI-FI fan and couldn't understand why anyone would want to remake this. The original film is absolute tonk as well.

I loved Solaris. Beautiful and thought provoking. One of the best films I've seen this year. George Clooney was superb.

The original Solaris was something else though , I must agree that unless the name was changed, or deal with a different aspect of the planets influence, why play with the original story at all

it wasn't what i was expecting, but i really did enjoy it - certainly madea change from the run-of-the-mill crap that gets churned out.

the soundtrack's quite superb too.

Actually DO WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Probably the best movie Kubrick never made. At last an intelligent thought provoking piece of Science Fiction that doesn't have the use of laser blasts and robots- oh and doesn't overstay it's welcome unlike Tarkovsky's original- brilliant yes but ponderous. Not a fan of Clooney but his performance is excellent, only overshadowed by Jeremy Davies who certainly knows how to play weird (a bit unfair- catch Roman Coppola's cracking 'CQ' from last year which apart from being a love letter to Mario Bava has JD along with Depardeiu and Jason Schwarzmann playing thinly disguised well known film makers).
Bottom line folks the only reason you 'don't waste your money' is that you were taken in by Fox's appaling marketing campaign. They didn't know what they had pushing it as an all out SciFi movie here and a love story in the States, but if you want a rest from the usual brainless pap that Hollywood churns out, this is certainly for you!
