solar systems - education - politics?

If we do not know how many solar systems are present in the Milky Way galaxy and incapable to know if other life is present in the Milky Way why are we spending $ to find out if life is present in other galaxies?

To spend money searching for life on other galaxies is a human trait.

The search for the unknown is fascinating.

It could be compared to traveling to other countries out of curiosity.

AAAAAGGGGGGG!!! I want to scream when I hear things like this.

First, we are incapable of detecting life in other galaxies and no one is looking for it.

Second, SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Life) is privately funded by an organization called the SETI league. NASA stopped funding this effort in 1995. Private citizens are still free (for now) to spend their money anyway they see fit.

Third, finding life is not the primary effort of any current space programs. The only experiments involving life take place on the ISS and are designed to see how life reacts to a zero-gee environment.

Fourth, space missions and probes to other planets help us understanding our own Earth environment. Examining the chemistry, geology and the atmospheres of other planets helps us better understand these processes on Earth. This in turn improves quality of life on Earth.

Lastly, It is difficult to find any aspect of our lives that is not effected by some aspect of the space program. Everything from weather and communication satellites, computers, even the humble smoke detector in your home has it's roots in the space program.

If people want to spend their own money on SETI, great, good for them. As far as public funding on space, dollar for dollar it's probably the best investment ever made.

People wants to explore outside our Universe...in the solar system...with peoples intelligence we can really dig into way far the space and beyond the unexpected, thats why you need money to do all those things to invent such machine to use to explore and to study coz if not how can u learn , how can science share such knowledge abt what they reach for right...without money we wont go anywhere.

It purely a quest for knowledge, since communication with any other planets would be an unbearably slow process. However, it is easier to pick out planets and (perhaps) life in other galaxies, because we have a clear view. Looking inward into our galaxy, there are many stars. Imagine trying to pick out a friend of yours on a football field with 20 people spread out, as opposed to trying to pick out a friend on a crowded street corner. Same principle.
