I noticed my last bill had a ~$10 charge for social service tax?! I called Bell and they said it's tax nothing they can do....My friend's SHAW doesn't have this tax, we are both in the same province, BC. I never recalled seeing this tax from many years of TV subscription....do you guys know?

Thanks!!

Ken.

are you sure you aren't thinking of your provincial sales tax?

there is no such thing as "Social Service Tax".

The provinical sales tax is also called "social service tax" in BC.;)

I woudn't know about Shaw, but I know that Bell does charges both the TPS and the Social service tax...that's the name they use on the billing system. Nothing that CSR could do about that, unless you have an Indian status an can send us the info

Sorry ... but all service providers in BC charge PST and GST but the amounts differ because not all services are taxable.

Basic cable charges of $27 are PST exempt. Any additional cable tiers, bundled services, and internet are charged PST.

The basic portion of Shaw Digital Phone and long distance are PST exempt (Shaw calculates this at $40). The remaining $15 for calling services are charged PST.

The entire bill is subject to GST%.
