So zeh PS3 is 840 dollars to manufacture.

Nothing what I've heard, from what you've said. This is what I know.

Japan got 90k units. 88k sold in 2 days. Likely its sold out by this point. Sony has stated through several sites that they will ship 100k units to Japan each week through the holidays. I'd imagine they'd do the same with America, seeing as how these two regions are Sony's biggest markets.

Interesting though that Sony cut the US allocation almost in half. They could be planning a very quick European launch before the holiday season is over just to establish a foothold in the Europe. It would offset the lead MS was predicting on a March release.

Whether or not they can maintain the shipments is totally in the air. Gamestop/EB has been telling their customers December for the 2nd shipment because even the upper management doesn't know when we're getting our next allocation.

Right now, as it stands, the US has somewhere between 2 to 300k units. And likely they'll be sold out before the middle of next week.

a) What's the point of manufacturing something at a loss where you would have to make up $200-300 in accessories and games just to even show a tiny profit?

-the manufacturing costs are lower than $840 or
-the licensing fees and perhaps other revenue sources (game developers paying to be able to develop games on the PS3 platform) etc.

it doesn't make business sense to spend billions of dollars to make a return of 50 bucks a console.

hmm
there are going to be a lot of fake bids

as long as i get my preorder before xmas, i think ill still do ok. they are going to be impossible to find before the holidays

Right now, they have to get a system out. They'll take the hit as long as they're selling an extra controller or three. Plus games (20 at launch) with only three or four worth mentioning. Sony will get the costs down very quickly.

well your gonna screw alot of people with the memory cards and contrlers for sure...

then people collect quite a few games for their system.. so in a few years they probably made their money back.. wonder why game systems went over their technology cost.. they should of just slowed down the production of newer more advanced systems till it was plausable to sell it for a 300ish dollar mark and still make profit
