so why do performers never spend much time talking to the audience?

i mean, i do like at private parties, if it feels like the thing to do, but like at paid events it seems like there's kinda some unwritten rule saying you don't do that

maybe just cuz some people would feel they got ripped off, if too much talk and not enough music? or something?
