So where are all those huge 40% off car sales? (GM, Chrysler, Ford) I can't find any...?

I'm not from the US but I've read a lot of articles about American dealers selling for instance new Jeep Commanders for $12k, so I thought it could be a good moment to buy a car. However, when I started searching, I've seen used cars for even more than the articles in my country claimed. Do you know where I can buy cars at such great prices or were the journalits just lying?
 
40% off? No way, and I live in the U.S. Companies still need to make money, and selling them that cheap isn't good business practice. The only thing that you will see occur is that financing restrictions will continue to lessen, and rebates will continue to go up (like the new "gas-guzzler" rebate coming out). I don't see 12K for a brand new Commander ever. It costs Jeeps more than that just to produce one.
 
they werent selling them for 12k, they were taking 12k off msrp. i saw up to 15k off on some chrysler vehicles but lately all ive seen is up to about 9k off

and yes, chrysler was taking 40% off a commander at my local dealer but they arent 20k vehicles
