So what is Vista even like?

Im also wondering, does the quality of Vista add up to the resources its using, or do you people think its badly programmed (bunch of memory leaks and what not) since it eats up 1 gig of ram just to run.

Frequency of updates != the quality of the OS.
Most Linux distros, which are obviously more secure than Windows, get dozens of updates weekly to patch holes and add features.

My computer is:

3.20ghz P4
512mb RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 128mb

Besides from the obvious option to upgrade the ram (I'm getting to that soon) How would my computer handle vista?

And also, is it possible to upgrade to vista without losing all your current installations, files etc on the hard drive?

The reason it uses so much RAM is because they implemented a new caching scheme. It's not leaking, it really is by design. It uses free RAM for file and program cache and releases it back to the system when it needs it for other things (such as programs).

All the RSS feeds, the weather, the three buttons above the weather, and the scroll banner are all widgets.

Still less RAM use than V. Fuck, even looks like V.

Well, fuck, so do I. There's actually stock tickers and some more buttons now.

For me it comes down to: I have no reason to change. Vista offers no functionality that I need. Even the nice-to-have's aren't that nice, nor do the even come close to outweighing the DRM limitations.
