So what is Vista even like?

Yes and no. If you are not using HD-DVD/Blu-Ray DVDs on your PC (99% sure that you are not) then the entire DRM FUD is completely moot for you. It only applies to HDCP protected content playback. Nothing else.

I guess for some people moral principles come into play when they choose an operating system... me, I just use what works best for what I want it to do. If DRM doesn't affect that, why should I care?

It's pretty amazing. Anyone who said otherwise probably hasn't really tried it (or can't use it to its full potential).

Then again, I have a computer from 2003 and I can use every feature from vista...so I don't know why anyone says older computers won't run this. The only thing I've upgraded was the video card, which is a 6800gt from a couple years ago.

My specs are:
P4 2.66ghz
1GB pc2700 memory

And the entire OS runs incredibly fast and smooth. In terms of speed XP isn't even comparable to this.

I purchased a laptop in November. It came with the Vista coupon for Vista Premium.
In December I purchased a copy of XP-Media Center. I was under the impression that merely purchasing the copy of XP-MCE would get me a coupon for Vista Premium at launch.
I was wrong.
You absolutely needed to purchase a new PC.

Well, I went to the site where I filled out the stuff for my laptop, I added 1 to the serial number of the laptop I had purchased, used the new XP-MCE key and a bunch of months later I have 2 copies of Vista Premium.

At first I thought my install to the PC was fucked. The install discs they sent me didn't seem to allow for a straight up put the disc in and install a new version of Vista.

What I did was go into the newsgroups and download a copy of Vista Ultimate. When I use that DVD that I created along with the keys from the 2 versions I bought I was gold. They installed no problem from that DVD image.

its all about having 2 harddrives so you can convert and burn stuff on one drive while surfing the web, playing games on the other harddrive.

i have had vista for 2 weeks. i love it. the integrated search is much better than google desktop/windows search/any others I have tried. everything i need works on here. no problems loading the few games I play or any of the drivers on my i9300.

And what about the price? Is it worth going for the ultimate version? I heard that oem + retail is the same functions but in terms of price makes a lot of difference =\

yeah I think that's what I'm gonna do. hold off until I'm plopping down money already on building a new system.... that way I have the money spending bug and vista doesn't seem THAT expensive in comparison.
Looks pretty tho from the pics.
