I got tied up last night and wasnt able to get my A900 converted (hope to get it done tonight), but I was curious about something. What is a Cricket PRL? I downloaded it and it appears to have to RAZR v3c in it. I was told when I called Cricket to get my new converted a900 connected to tell them that I was setting up a Razr. Why is that? What exactly am I uploading onto my A900. Not concerned, just curious.

PRL stanRAB for Prefered Roaming List. Basically it is a list of Network System Identification Nuraber (SID). SID are given by the FCC to help divide carriers by areas. When your phone is functionning and scanning, it can register based and the SID that he picks up in the air. For example, in your area many cell phone providers are broadcasting under CDMA frequencies, like sprint, verizon, Alltell, cricket or other. Each of them are identified by that SID nuraber, verizon:94, cricket:5027, Sprint: 5147(depending on your area). The phone will then compare those nuraber to his list (PRL) and register on them by priority created on that PRL. A cricket non roaming PRL like version 1040 doesn't alow roaming because it only contain Cricket SID's , his own network. But a Cricket roaming PRL like version 7721 include Cricket SID's and Verizon SID's as well, meaning that when you get in an area where Cricket is not broadcasting the phone will then register on other SID's it can find. Also, changing the PRL will let the phone register on different compagnies.

Thanks for that great explaination Fabulous. I understand now. So right now I have a Cricket PRL of 1040, which you say wont allow roaming. I travel frequently between here in Portland, OR and Los Angeles and plan on taking my Cricket phone with me just for emergency and priority calling. Once my a900m will be loaded with the 1040 PRL, does that mean that even though I buy roaming minutes from cricket, that it wont work? And if that is the case does that mean I should find PRL 7721? Thanks again!

call cricket and get the travel time and upgrade to the plan that lets you use your phone in all of crickets markets...then your phone will download the new prl

Gotcha. So even though I am using an "outside" phone, or non-Cricket phone, it will still non the less download the new prl once I purchase travel time..? Nice.
