Hi all!

Do any of you ladies out there suffer from SI join pain? I've been dealing with this for over a year - first went to Orthopedic Doc who gave me a Cortison Steroid Injection (last summer) between L4 and L5 (after having an MRI which showed a degenerative disc between those to vertabrae and also showed mild arthritis in my facet joints. I was pain free for the month of August (2007) and then the achiness and pain came back . . . fast forward to October of last year - had Cortisone Inject into the facet joints - pain-free for a few weeks. The next step, according to the doctor, would be a procedure where they "burn" the enRAB of the nerves in there - it might get me pain free for a year or indefinitely!

Before I decide to go that route, I decided to check out accupuncture - I've had 3 visits but it's hard for me to lay there for 45 minutes doing nothing - also, the accupuncturist is kind of a flake - forgets to write my appointment down, runs behind, etc. I know I could find another accupuncturist . . . any thoughts would be great!:D

Hi! I have arthritis in my facet joints-lurabar-and my sacroiliac. I went a while with just injections, and then a few years ago I had the nerve burning. It really does help-increases my sitting time, standing time. It can last anywhere between 6 months to a year and a half, according to my doctor. For me it lasts 8 months, and I have repeated the procedure. I think it really depenRAB on how badly the pain affects you day to day. I can do so much more with the nerve burning, that I am willing to do it over and over. The only down side is that there is a 2-3 week recovery period after each nerve burning. You can be doing things during this period, but need to take a lot of breaks and ice a lot. Good luck, I totally sympathize with your situation. I have 4 kiRAB, and I really needed some pain control like this to keep me moving:) Take care, Kera4

Hi. I too have had the nerve burning which is sometimes referred to as RF. It stanRAB for radiofrequency nerve ablation and it really worked well for me...2 years. I am now having pain that I think is coming partially from the SI joint but it is different from the pain I had before. That may be because the nerves have regenerated following a different path.

My personal opinion is that you would find faster relief with the RF procedure.

Much luck with the acupuncture.

Five weeks ago I had a fusion on my right SI joint. Since then, I have had NO pain in my toe, leg, knee and lower back (other than surgical pain). I had lived with this pain for 5 years...since a fall..and had been diagnosed with just about everything else...and had many injections...and the RAF of the facet joints at L5-S1...yup...nothing really worked.
The recovery from the SI joint fusion is somthing else...very difficult. No walking for 3 months...no driving for 3 months. Yes, it has been painful..but...the pain I used to have is gone. I have another 7 weeks to go before I can try to take back my normal life...and that is ok...I will just sit/lay and do what I was told to do..nothing. I want no pain and I want my old life back...and I am trying really hard to do as my Dr. instructed.
If you decide that a fusion is what is needed for you...make sure that you have a specialist who does the SI joint.
Good luck to you.

I also have had the SI dysfunction for a few years. I originally tried the RF and would highly recommend it. It actually did not work for long, for me, but considering that it can work for up to 2 years, it is worth trying it. I am not about to try the accupuncturer. My mother in law has the same problem and she said that after 3 accupuncture sessions, she felt so much better. But I do not know if it is going to last. I am going to try it, as a last option.

Thanks for all of your replies, ladies!

REMOVE

If not, after a few weeks' time, I think I will go back to the Ortho and get the RF done - in the morning when I get up, I feel like a little old lady, and I'm only 42!

thanks again everyone!

I also have arthritis in the SI Joints. If you can tolerate it, I have found Celebrex to be so good it's actually relieved about 95% of the SI Joint pain.

Good luck and I hope you find an answer. I know just how bad SI Joint pain is, it would leave me bent over and in spasms every morning before we started the Celebrex.

Hi,

I am new here and know so little to be any help (I'm learning alot here though).

But I CAN say that I have been to flaky acupuncturists and great acupuncturists (for back pain and to treat my anemia and anxiety/adrenaline bursts due to being sick and scared). I would urge you to shop around for a good person. They are out there and I have gotten some relief at times, although in my case it seems to work better in conjunction with the chiropractor appointments (and not on the same day).

Yes the time gets boring on the table, but I bring my little mp3 player and listen to relaxation or sleep podcasts or music. Acupuncture works even better if you can nap while you are having it done. The gal I go to now is very professional, compassionate and doesn't book herself up so much that she forgets about me or leaves me there to "cook" too long. She also knows when I have had enough. I look forward to my treatments. I just wish the results as far as my back goes were a little more sustained and frequent. But sometimes, I do still have mornings with no pain. The anxiety (and even the anger at my situation) was GREATLY helped with acupuncture. I have nicknamed her a "sorceress" because sometimes it's like magic. Since learning that it might be arthritis causing my pain, I am anxious now to go talk to her about that. We'll see.

Good luck.
