I'm running it on 1GB and a 2800+, and I'd call it fast enough. Assuming you don't want do anything insane with it like open 100 RAW images in Photoshop at the same time.

I boot up XP with 23 processes running. Loads of shit you dont need in Vista/XP you can disable.

1GB Vista is not slower than XP, more than 1GB is faster. Give it some time to get faster though, it has to track your application use patterns for a bit so it learns what days and what times of day you like to use some programs and can use your extra RAM to preload it in the background without slowing you down before you run the program.
