So my Wii has been "updating" for 5 hours now..

I finally got my wireless connection working, the Wii acknowledged the connection and it was successful.
It told me it had to update for Wii Channels and some other shit, then a little blue bar started moving across the screen. It got half way after like half an hour and hasnt moved since.
It has been 5 hours since it started so I went to check on it again. Still hasnt moved. So I tried pressing Reset, nothing, then eject, nothing, then power on the Wii and the Wiimote. No response. So I unplugged the power and started it up again. Now its going through the same update and hasnt moved at all.
The Wii tests for an internet wireless connection first and acknowledges my Wi-Fi, but doesnt do anything. Should I wait or am I doing something wrong? Is this normal?

Happened to me the other day when I was installing the news channel. I got pissed, turned the Wii off and redownloaded then it finished in about 10 minutes.

I just walked up to the wii and pushed that button called power. Then pushed it again. I was hoping by me turning it off i didn't fuck my wii up, not because it wouldve been broken but because returning it would have been hell with the lack of wiis available.

Wierd cause my power button did not respond at all.

Just checked on it, it finally completed. So it seems the solution is just to power off and on again and resume updating.

i held down the power for like 10+ seconds until i did a hard shutdown. i think that has to be better than just pulling the plug.

that happened to me when I tried to connect to Wii Shop. I was dl'ing torrents at the time, when they finished, the Wii finally connected

The worst thing you can do during a system update on a console is pull the plug out.

Just a warning for people...Theres even a warning on the update telling you not to unplug the Wii.

If the update is taking 5+ hours, change your router default channel to 11.

I had the same thing... changed router to channel 1 and it as fine, but now the tivo's dont like channel 1 and are being a pain in the ass. But once I switched the router back to channel 6, after hte update, the wii was fine and has been connected ever since.
