I am assuming you mean a 4 cylinder car as opposed to 4 liter car. The biggest difference would be in how you drive the car and what you use it for. The V6 engines of today can get very close to 4 cylinder mileage, yet they have more power and torque to move you about. They tend to fare better in the resale value also. If you are a mileage miser and don't care about the lower power of a 4 cylinder car, than go for it. The difference in longevity is pretty insignificant. A four cylinder Toyota Camry will usually hit 200K without major repairs. Just shop for a highly rated brand like Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, etc.

because he says it lasts? longer but we want a 4 liter because it gets better gas milage. any information on that would be great.. does a 4 liter really break down faster than a 6 or does that depend make of car?
