So, I've decided to get the Dash

It fulfills most of my basic requirements of internet accessibility (not sure how useful the internet plan is because I live in NYC, so there should be tons of places where I can connect with WiFi), decent media player for videos and possibly movies, and texting.
I also read there is an option where I can buy a program to view Microsoft Word files. Although I can't edit it like a Pocket PC, viewing folders is good enough for now.
The thing I'm wondering is, is there a better phone for the price? It'll be $200 and then some depending on what extra plans I get. I'm also wondering if this phone will be durable enough to last me for two years.
And are there any other phones that cost relatively the same with similar or better benefits? From reviews I've read at Cnet and some other places, Dash seems to be superior to the BlackJack and the Q.
If it's possible, I'd really like to know what the phone with the plans included would cost. Thanks in advance.

Theirs a program in the Mircosoft smartphone section. Where u can bu a program to edit
Word,excel and such...

I would just keep the Dash, because its the only phone that has wifi from Blackjack and Q...

I'm confused as to whether or not I should keep the Dash now. Although I'm getting a phone today, I'm not sure if I should get the Dash. I didn't know you had to pay for the WiFi hotspot service. Although it's faster and cheaper, it's not cheaper by enough for me to change my mind on getting the Data plan. And since I would have to pay for a data plan anyways, I figured something such as the BlackJack with 3G would be better. I doubt anyone will answer this by tonight, but it's still nice to know if you guys have any advice or comments. I also somehow overlooked the fact that the dash is only 64MB RAM, which seems kinda low. Anyways, I plan to mainly use this phone for email, watching videos, internet browsing, and talking. I hope that it's capable of doing the things that I need it to do.

And thanks for the heads up on the new Microsoft editing program. I'll definitely get it when it comes out.

Well if ur with Tmo get the 5.99 tzones and set up the proxy, in the T mo Smartphone section...And the Dash is good when it comes to browsing and talking, i haven't put any videos or done email since i dont have a memory card..Also wifi is free i pick wifi in NYC a lot from my home to stores to un protected internet...

If WiFi is free, what's the deal with the "hotspot" plan? I'll check this tomorrow, but it's pretty late and I'm sure most of you are sleeping. I have no idea what the 5.99 tzone thing is. As for setting up the proxy, I'm what you would call "technologically unadvanced."
I won't go for the total internet plan yet. I'll just add it on later if I find out I do need it.

The hotspots plan is so you can connect to any t-mobile wi-fi hotspot which are usually located in starbucks. But there's other internet connections floating around, it doesn't cost anything to use those.

Honestly, the Dash might be slick and fast but it does not cover the features I demand that Windows Mobile 5 gives me. I have an MDA, and theres nothing I have found that it doesn't do. The only problem was speed, and the overclocking covered it.

It turns out my plan isn't over till the 21st of Febuary, so I still have a lot of time.

As for the MDA, I actually liked it from what I read about it and because it's a PocketPC, but it's a little too big for me. The advantage of being able to edit documents will soon be available to Dash because of the program that's coming out soon.

I'm also wondering if it's possible to get a discount with my T-Mobile service. It'll be an individual plan. I plan to get MyFaves, but not any of the internet service plans. Or at least, not until I find out whether or not the WiFi is useful. My parents are signing over to Cingular and getting a 50% accessorie discount and 25% bill discount because they are government employees. Is it possible for them to get that same discount if they sign me up for my T-mobile service? Or does T-mobile not have that kind of deal?

What other applications does it have that's not included? I'm going to use it for school basically.
I like the MDA, but it I really don't want anything that resembles anything even similar to a Sidekick. Sounds stupid, I know.

The Dash is more of Smartphone and MDA is more of Pocket PC closer to a Comp than the Dash. The MDA is more hackable than the Dash in the sense of adding more App and MDA is touch screen but both of them are the same, both 5.0, wifi, 200mhz Edge...

I thought the MDA was a PocketPC. I actually really like it, but it's kinda big and like I said, it resembles the sidekick too much. It's better than the Dash in the sense that it is closer to a PC and has a touchscreen and better keypad, but since I don't know much about phones in general, I wouldn't be able to hack it, anyways.
I really do want to beef my Dash up when/if I get it though. However, there's basically nothing I can do because of my limited knowledge.

The T mo hotspot is for areas that T mobile has its own internet connection something like that and u have to pay for it not to sure about it...But the wifi is free i use it home and when ever i get wifi...The Dash is easy to beef up just read the instructions to install and if u have problems Hofos will help you out...U said u need to view documents which the Dash could do and soon will be able to edit it...The Dash does cover ur needs..
Internet is good, Aim is good, the camera is good..

Also u can use the internet on the Dash using the 5.99 T zone plan just got to set up the proxies....

As far the gov't thing i'm not sure if they give discounts but i think they do would since cingular does it...I would call T mo to check on that...Hope this helps..

I've had the dash since new years and I pretty much love it. I'm coming from a Razr and I really like the added features. I'm definitely doing more with it, productivity-wise. The Wifi is really nice. for the record, you don't need any additional data plans like you do with the BB. Other than the paid access ones, you can hop on any Wifi network for free. I've got the Starbucks data plan and it's actually pretty nice. There's a fair share of programs available to extend capabilities too.

Thanks, that does help. I'm wondering, is it possible to view my email and use IM with only the free WiFi connection? And I checked the 5.99 T-Zone plan. It says that it's for checking my email, but can't I do that with WiFi connection alone? If so, what other benefits does it offer? I'm actually confused about the part about the proxy. I'm actually not experienced with phones, let alone smart phones. In fact, I'm not a techy in any sense of the word, but I have a good appreciation for nice gadgets.

Can you name any programs that might help boost the Dash be even more useful? And I, too, am upgrading from the Razr.

yep. you get complete use of your phone on an accessible WiFi network just like you would a laptop.

sorry, I don't know about the TZones plan

I'd say play around at handango.com & smartphone.net to find stuff that interests you. there's enough there to keep you busy. You just want to find stuff for Smartphone, not PocketPC.

Thanks for the site links. I'll be sure to check them out.
Also, when you download them onto your Dash, is it directed to the memory card or the internal memory? And will them slow down your Dash?
