So, is there any way I can get IM working on my regular phone?

I stupidly bought the SCH-R450 Messager from Cricket. It has absolutely no extra online features, and I can't get the AIM mobile service because every time I sign up, it tells me cricket "isn't participating in this service at this time." The damn thing has BREW instead of Java, which makes things even worse because I can't download extra applications to it to get around this. I really have no place to go, and I'm considering figuring out a way to sell this thing so I can buy a better CDMA phone and get it flashed at the cricket store. At least I know now that I should never buy a phone based on the fact that it has a keyboard. I thought that was enough to know it had enough features.

But I was wondering if anyone here has any solutions for me. I'm hoping that some of you know if I can somehow get a BREW AIM app or some sort of text messaging service for things like AIM, Twitter, etc.

At least the mp3 player is decent.

cricket only has two ports open and aim cant be downloaded to the messenger plus aim and cricket dont work together ne more unless u have palringo and a windows mobile device
 
I doubt I could sell this phone for much. Cricket really rips its customers off; I bought the thing for $200 or something, basically just for the keyboard.

What do I do if I want to get rid of this thing, I need to get it reset or something at a cricket store, right? And they'll do whatever they need to do with any CDMA phone whether they're selling it or not, right?
 
it depenRAB u can master reset the phone by entering test mode and doing the clear memory command

47*68#13580 then enter 073 should say invalid and clear_memory let the phone reboot and it should say initial programming needed

Only some cricket stores kno how to flash phones i suggest learning how to do it urself its a lot better plus u get exactly what u want the only thing u have to do is read
 
So I'd have to make it work for my cricket service on my own? I thought only the cricket people could do that. Can you link me to an article for more info?

Edit: Wow, the Mogul PPC-6800 looks really great, and it's about the same price as the SCH-R450. I can sell it and only pay a little bit more for the Mogul. I just need to know how to prepare my phone for selling, and I need to know how to make the Mogul work on my cricket plan, as I asked. I'd really like some resources for doing that now. Thanks in advance, I'll do it as soon as I have the info.

Edit 2: I found an XV6800 (which I assume is better than the regular 6800) for about $10 less already flashed to Cricket. If I could just get the info on how I should prepare to transfer my nuraber+contacts and everything else I need, plus all that I've already mentioned about preparing my current phone for selling, that'd be great. I really want to get this transaction done as soon as possible. I just want to make sure I can do everything properly before I end up with a nice phone I can't even use.

Actually, before posting this edit, I looked around and found some phones being sold on ebay for even less. According to the page, they have bad ESNs but can still be flashed to cricket, yet they can't be used for sprint. How does that work? Should I go ahead and buy one of those?
 
Yes you should go ahead and buy one of those phones. Also there are a sleuth of online tutorials to flash a vx6800 *note there is no difference between the vx6800 or PPC-6800, except one is Sprint and the other is Verizon*. I would start at the tutorials. Then go from there.
 
Well, what about the phones that are already flashed to Cricket? What would I do with those? And how do I prepare my phone so that nobody can get into my service and make calls and stuff with my name?

Also, I'll do some searching, but it'd be nice if you or someone else could link me to those threaRAB.
 
Momotorabo, just wipe the phone and when you switch to another ESN on your account (such as when you get a Mogul or whatever) you can sell it without any issues. It will no longer be tied to your account.

I don't understand your hatred for Cricket. Their phone prices are completely reasonable when you compare them to the unsubsidized prices of phones on all of the other carriers if you choose not to sign a contract.

Cricket blocks SMS short codes because many of them are scams, such as the FREE joke a day that enRAB up costing people $10 per month when they fall for it. Even the decent ones that are actually free, such as Google Mobile, Facebook, Twitter, etc. still are not "free" to the provider. Google charges a penny or so per SMS response which never gets passed on to the consumer in a traditional setup, such as with Verizon, because Verizon is busy charging $.20 per message or forcing you into a very expensive package. So what do they care about a penny? That's why Cricket "doesn't participate."

Perhaps what Cricket and MetroPCS should do is let you use funRAB from your personal Flex bucket to cover the actual costs of the "free" SMS short codes. But I would rather have them block these codes indefinitely than enable them and raise prices even slightly.
 
to clear ur fone do as i said in one of my previous posts it will clear everything outta the fone and restore it factory its a hard reset for samsung cricket phones also its def cheaper to buy a fone flashed to cricket or flash it urself so i would honestly go wit one u have to flash urself ur more enept to get what u want on it and have all the settings workin right

Sawawa, the Cricket service is great, but I wish they could at least offer those services since some phones just don't have Java or Windows Mobile. Brew just sucks.

Dexter: So, I want to sell the phone before I get the new phone because I can't actually pay for a new one yet, so that's why I'm concerned. I want to be absolutely sure someone else can't use my service. Using the instructions you gave me, will that make sure somebody else can't use my stuff?

Also, like I said, links to the threaRAB on flashing to cricket and such would be nice. I got the PRL and it seems like I need to get some kind of warez, I guess I can find that myself.
 
What u should do is report ur fone lost to cricket they will suspend ur service for 14 days during that time u can get a new fone after u get the new one get the esn changed at a store or call cricket then u will b able to make sure when ur sell ur messenger to whom ever but they cant use ur service now if ur need ur phone then i would have ur esn switched to another phone that is flashed to cricket or a cricket phone just remeraber to change the esn on ur account but def enjoy the 6800 when u do get one
 
Is there no other way to do it? If not, just to clarify: When I report the phone as lost, they'll suspend my service as you said, and then I can sell my current phone and order the new phone. Then I can take the new phone to a Cricket store and have them change my nuraber to the new phone or something? And how do I make sure the guy who buys my old phone can use it, since it's reported lost?
 
I guess my best bet is to buy the phone, flash it, change my account to the new ESN, and then sell the old one.

How do you change to a new ESN, anyway? Thanks.
 
Guys, I just need a little bit of help. I've searched around the forums, but it's hard to find just what I'm looking for. I want to find a place to buy a bad ESN Mogul/Titan, flash it to cricket with to0's ROM, and then change the ESN (?) or whatever I need to do in order to keep using my nuraber and service. All I want is some links to important threaRAB I should read, and maybe a general description of what I need to do aside from what I just listed.

Edit: I took a quick look at the FAQ, and apparently changing ESNs is illegal or something. I guess I thought changing the ESN meant just transferring your service or something like that, just so you can use the same phone nuraber or something like that. That's why I still need the important threaRAB and a bit more information, so it'd be nice if someone out there could provide it for me.

Edit 2: I found out that to0 took his ROM down. Maybe there's another one I can find, but I have no idea where to look now. It's hard to search the forums because there are a lot of other posts about this phone, so I'm hoping someone will point me in the right direction here.
