so is mac osx leopard going to be the new hotness when it's released?

Vista is a total redesign that's been 5 years in the making. Leopard... isn't.

Also Vista is relevant to about 20 times as many computers.

And regardless of the beta, the vast majority of people getting are only getting now that the final version is released. Since most of us aren't subscribers to MSDN (not to mention foolhardy enough to run beta Windows).

I don't know where you guys get this shit but Vista is not just reworked XP. The rewrote the kernal and added a shit load of new stuff under the hood.

Here is a partial list ripped from the still not comprehensive Wiki article of technical features in Vista:

and on and on and on and on

Leopard doesn't need to be since it is already built on the 10.x engine, specifically BSD and E17. All you are really saying is that OSX has been ahead of the curve by about 2 years. Come on, when you first saw the dock you thought it was the shit. Widgets / gadgets were introduced over a year ago in OSX. You can have some of the same functionality with Opera (widgets) or Fire Fox (panels).

No, we know that it isn't just a reworked XP kernel. My own objection is DRM, period. And yes, OSX will also go the DRM route, it's something that one won't be able to get away from. I just don't see any reason to upgrade as it will necessitate building a whole new gaming PC.

Seriously?? Have you ever used a Mac? Ever hear the phrase "it just works"? I have yet to find a single piece of hardware that isn't immediately recognized by mine. Sure, the computers did have different Mboards, but since Apple has gone Intel, I would venture to say that even that isn't true anymore. Now when you go into the PPC Macs, it's a slightly different story. The logic board and processor were pretty much unique to Apple, but the sound cards, video cards, drives, etc were all the same stuff you could get for a PC. So again, enlighten me, what exactly does MS have to program for that takes them so much longer than Apple??

You are seriously an idiot if you can't grasp the concept that just because MAC hardware works in a PC ... that all PC hardware will work in a Mac.

There are probably 1000's of different network cards alone that HAVE to work in Windows in order to appease their business customers. How about 1000's of different SCSI controller boards???

OSX works with most mainstream Consumer hardware released in the last couple years, but Microsoft has to appease to a HUGE business clientele, and has to support 1,000,000's of different hardware combinations on some relatively obscure hardware in order for it to be released.

"It just works" is an advertisement slogan. I have my powerbook crashed on my plenty of times in the 2 years i had it. Computers crashes...whether its windows or osx.

There's nothing quite like the helpless feeling that comes over you when the dreaded spinning wheel attacks. I think OSX tends to break when installing all the updates. I had that problem with a 233 MHZ buble type Mac - I just couldn't install one of the updates, like firewire or ipod / itunes. So long as I didn't install them, everything was fine. Install them and the system starts to hang and crash.
