So if i were to race a baja dirt bike in a motocross race would it be a guarantee loss?

People say bajas suck and i kinda like them, i want to start racing and there really cheap. I have limited money and its only gonna be my first real dirt bike for motocross.Am I making wise decision. People also say that the suspension is awful so if I were to go of a jump i would bouce right of the seat , i don't think so. Well answers quick plz have to find out soon. Also people say the acceleration is bad I have a baja 50cc and the thing is crazy fast
