So I tried to cross-flash my E50, and...

...I learned that "USB Dead Phone" flashing feature works very well in Phoenix. The quick answer: don't try to flash from APAC to EMEA (EURO), it doesn't work. I have 'India WHITE' product code, and wanted to get 'EURO 1 WHITE' on my handset instead -- I figured it was worth a try, since the keypad looks 'normal' (US/Western). My E60 is working fine so it's not like I'd be without a phone if all h*ll broke loose.

Changed product code, ran Phoenix and flashed the right stuff. Dead phone, powered on briefly and then off -- at least I knew I had a chance to bring 'er back. First I tried Dead Phone flashing the same EURO1 f/w, but nope - it wasn't a mistake the first time, this f/w won't run on this handset. boooooo. I installed the APAC f/w file, ran the Dead Phone flashing again choosing the proper product code for my handset, of course if flashed just fine and booted right up.

Poking around the files, it looks like it's simply the 86byte boot loader and I could hack it (take the APAC bootloader, rename it to EMEA then flash with EURO1 files) but I'm not quite ready to frankenphone my E50 that much.

Oh well.

I believe the method used to switch the N73 from APAC to EMEA has nothing to do with Phoenix though. You're supposed to use NSS to switch the product code, and then run NSU. I'm not surprised in the least if you went through all those changes and almost bricked your phone.

Even still, I think you can try again with the steps I mentioned to get the firmware you're looking for. If it doesn't work, you always have your Dead Flash option.

Well, I'll probably just leave it as is -- I'll just consider myself lucky I didn't brick it into next year and deal with the India firmware. No biggee...but at least I tried!

rivvah,

I am fine with flashing a EURO1 to APAC2 and back to EURO1. However, my trick is to use the EURO1 model data package in the very same APAC firmware... I have found a EURO1 product code, 0536348 ALPS WHITE, listed inside. If I use the EMEA firmware, I get the same problem like yours. Luckily, there is always the Dead Phone USB flashing check box around

One thing for sure, downgrade the version is not possible for me.

anyone figure this out yet? i was trying to do the same thing, and same problems. i went as far as keeping the apac boot file but renaming the other files to emea and using those, and changing the xml data in that vbl file, but no dice, i couldn't get the option to flash it, somehow phoenix figured out the files didn't match up with each other... help i want emea on my apac!

btw:
i have the metal black edition phone, stock its 0544637, i have the euro3 black metal edition firmware: 0542430, i tried putting that on but phone wouldn't boot, just shut off.
