So i rented a Road Glide...

well this what i will tell ya renting a piece of junk wont tell u anything. i have a 2011 RG just put a 8 1/2 inch klock works on no worse then my streeglide which had a 4 inch windvest. just like someone said earlier u always personilize your bike all the money we spend on our bikes whats a $180.00 windsheild. i owned a 08 roadglide bought a streetglide now i own a 2011 RG iam 5"8 and i got no complaints. if u are un sure of pulling the trigger stay with your SG and u will always wonder why u didnt buy a fugley.and i have never heard anyone with a RG ever say they couldnt go any further in the wind these bikes were mad for the head winds. i have heard guys with fatboys and roadkings say they needed to rest. anyway good luck with your choice.

The stock windshield on my 08 RG was to tall and cut into my line of sight and I got a lot of head buffeting at high speed.
I like looking over the top of the shield and still getting decent protection.
I'm 5'10". For me the Clearview GT Small did the trick.
No complaints about the ride or the wind. For me the RG has been the best riding Harley I have owned.

I own both at the moment. 09 SG and 10 RGC.
Hands down the SG has better wind protection out of the box. But the RG is easily fixed.
I have a 12" Windvest for the RG. It doesn't look all that bad and sends all the upper air over my head.
I also have the 32 buck under fairing wind blocker things. Work well to stop the air buffeting coming through the bottom of the RG fairing.

What an RG will not do no matter what is curve the air around your legs.
High speed air coming off the lower part of the fairing will hit you directly in the knees. Good in summer, bad in Winter.
Fix this (somewhat) by getting lowers. I have them and run them in Winter. All good...

That said, I prefer my RG over the SG.
It's an open cockpit, better choice of handlebars and it rides like a dream.
Better than the SG by a small margin mind you.

If you have an SG. Keep it. When you finally wear that bike out then think about an RG.
Truth is, the RG is not a wonder bike. It's just different.

I can't offer any advice between the SG and RG but as Shakey said.....yes and I'd even go further....killed is probably too kind of a word

I have ridden both the 2011 RGU and CVO RG. Two issues experienced with both models were intense heat from the engine and winding buffering. The heat is common with all stock Harleys nowadays due to EPA requirements - more noticable on the CVO with its larger cubed engine. As for the wind buffering, the wind deflectors helpped some, but without the benefit of a taller windshield, I still had significant wind to contend with (I'm 6'2"). Understand your delimea, do you roll the dice only to find out its not the right bike for you. Think enough RG riders here have offered helpful insight to put me at ease with the decision - now I just need to convince my wife. Go RG!

thanks guys.....
as for the windshield issue..it looks like Windvest makes a "Flip" style that should work...at least that is what their sales pitch says...... I have a similar "Ultra Flip" from LRS on my SG...and it works nice.. i look over it and the air sweeps up over my head due to the flip.
as for the BIG i$$ue... i guess i should go talk to my local dealer about that 2010 RGC he's got sitting on the floor, and see what kind of numbers he'l work with me. That will either make me more confused or more likely squash the whole idea when he tries to offer me $15,000 trade for my 2010 SG

You have a 2010 SG and are looking to get rid of it. And to make it worse you want to get a RG. I don't get it. You like the SG. There are a lot of guys out there that would kill for a 2010 SG and your going to dump it for the same freakin bike with a differnet fairing.

I really don't get this. Be happy with what you have. The grass isn't always greener as the say.

I have a 2006 SG. I love it. I will not get rid of this bike for any reason. Not to get whatever is new. Not to get the bike everyone on a forum is talkin about.

If ya really want to try a rg why not just change out the fairing on your sg - lots of guys have done it - it's cheaper than buying new - ya don't have to worry about losing on a trade in - you can sell the take offs if ya like it or you can sell the rg parts if ya don't - take my advice & do what ya want!
