So does academic excellence in high school predict financial success in life?

A kid who I knew (he was a complete snob who had a lot given to him in high school) in high school had a 4.0 GPA and a perfect SAT score. He went to another more advanced school and he was rated the brightest kid in the county, he was accepted into MIT. I was an average student in high school who was still finding himself. I went to a low level college.

2 years later, I end up transferring into Brown University from a low level school, did great in my first two years of college and everything. The kid ends up being a flunk out and is currently living with his parents, he dropped out of MIT and is miserable right now.

Does academic excellence in high school predict future success?
