So... all these Barbie Princess movies....

I have made this thread, because I have a problem. My ten year old sister recently coerced me into watching "Barbie & the Nutcracker" with her, and to my surprise I found myself... actually enjoying the movie. Don't misunderstand me; it's certainly not winning any Annies. But it had the basic concepts of story-telling (hero, quest, villain, danger) down-pat, and was not half as painful as I expected it to be. Please, please tell me I'm not alone in this incredibly guilty pleasure. Has anyone else seen any of the movies? What did you think?
 
Eh, Idaknow. That talking animals and the smiling little kids are too painful for me to tolerate most of the time. Plus the villains usually don't seem to pose enough of a threat alot of the time. However, alot of the storytelling and character interactions are actually pretty good. So I can see what you like in them.


Personally, though, I wish Mainframe would make another Transformers show. That'd be cool.
 
I spent a good deal of time avoiding knowing anything about that. The name does sound vaguely familiar, I'll admit that, but I know I've never heard of Blaine before.
 
Ken isn't really in them, there's incarnations of different love interests (unless you consider any brown haired males in the movies him).

I'm in my 20s and have most of the movies. I like them, they're actually enjoyable for people over 6.
 
FTR, Ken was Barbie's longtime boyfriend. (As previously stated, he doesn't really appear in the Barbie Princess videos, unless one considers all of the brown haired princes to be him.) Blaine was another male character created for the short-lived Generation Girl doll line, IIRC.

I've never seen these movies, but my older sister once did, and she told me how it was actually well structured. I'm glad to see she's not the only one who can enjoy them.
 
I simply cant stand watching movies with as low quality CG-animation as the Barbie films, so whenever they come on TV, i just change the channel.
 
I notice them in the grocery store DVD shelf. So they appear to be running out of princesses because last Dec. they had A Barbie Xmas Carol (Barbie as Scrooge?) and now they have some fairy thing and I assume the BArbie 3 Musketeers dolls at Toyfair this year are a movie tie-in as well. So eventually I expect Barbie Gilgamesh
 
Most of the Barbie DTVs are done by Mainframe, now known as Rainmaker, the studio that did Reboot and Beast Wars. They may be low quality, but you can tell some care went into the animation. There's no shame in appreciating that these folks made the best out of some sketchy material.
 
So, basically, you're saying that Barbie gets around in these movies. You know, I was having my doubts about these movies, but now I think every girl should see these movies so they learn the advantages of promiscuity.



Wait, these come on TV? You know, I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but this thread is actually making me interested in watching these. Especially if Barbie is promiscuous.



Barbie as Scrooge? You mean she's actually old and wrinkly? I can't imagine those dolls selling...
 
LOL! Well, she has a new love interest in each movie, be it a prince or whoever. I wouldn't say she's running around and dating 5 guys at the same time ;)
 
You like what you like.

I don't buy into these as I know they're only for $$$, but I do love that little girls adore them. ^^
