I live right at the end of a T-intersection, and a woman never stopped at the stop sign and just went straight into my porch. Only minimal damage was done to my house, and she went to the hospital with cuts on her head where she hit the windshield (her airbag did not go off). There were no skid marks to indicate that she tried stopping, and a friend who was at the scene said she just had her brakes replaced a week prior. The woman came to my house the next day to apologize, and explain that she had a seizure right before the crash.
It's to my knowledge that anyone who is prone to seizures get their license taken away because they are a hazard to themselves and others. But the things is, a neighbor across the street said he had just seen her wave from her vehicle right before the crash. If that's true, she would have only had a few seconds after waving to have a seizure in order for her to have not stopped at the sign. Could she be lying about the seizure? Either way, is it possible that she'll lose her license?
I never said it was up to me to decide, I am well aware that it is up to the courts. I was merely curious. And for the neighbor across the street to have seen her, she would have had to be already at the stop sign, or very close to it. It could be possible that the seizure could have cause her to hit the gas, but witnesses say she never even stopped. And, I don't know how long seizures last, but when my dad and I ran out to check on her, it did not seem that she was seizing.
Besides, it's not like I'm hoping she gets into a load of trouble and gets her license revoked (unless she really did have a seizure and will continue to have them in the future, then in that case it would be much safer for her). I think hitting her head and bleeding everywhere was enough of a punishment. I just wanted to know what could happen to her, legally speaking.
