hi people i got a fish tank about a month ago and there has been fish in there for about 2 weeks now! there is four live plants in there. In a 4.6 gallon tank with a filter with 2 fish. I noticed the other day that there was a snail! so i took it out and filled a pot up with tap water and put the snail straight in there. I also put some leaves from the fishes plants in there. I don't know whether it would be safe to put him in with the fish he is approximately 2mm long. If i should put him in there how would i do it? ten points for best answer!

place it in a rock or in the center of the plant.. the fish wouldn't eat it.. snail are vegetarians(most of them as i've known are)...

Need to know what type of snail and what fish you have. In all likelihood, if there's one snail there then you'll soon have millions - they're hermaphrodites and will breed like crazy. Most people come to see snails in fish tanks as pests for just this reason and go to lengths to obtain apple snails or nerites instead, as they are easy to control. My bet is you'll be posting again within a month wanting to know how to get rid of the snails, in which case the answer is loaches! Be careful about buying clown loaches however - people underestimate how big they get.

In the meantime... your snail is probably fairly safe. So long as there's no loaches or puffers in the tank then it's unlikely you have anything in there that will be interested in eating him :-)

i normally see snails in the fish tank sometimes.
but im not sure..go to a pet store and find out what type of snails can live with your fish..that would be your best bet rather than a trajic ending for your fishes!
