I went ahead and set up a service to translate email messages to SMS for Cricket. I think it will work with Jump Mobile also but I don't have an account to test with.

Anyway, just send a message to [email protected] and you should get it almost immediately.

Right now it's free but it may need to become a pay service if there's a lot of traffic.

Wow thats cool it worked!!

just don't know how u did it...

well thanks

BUT is there a way for us to see who sent us the message?? and to be able to hit reply or something..(oh maybe because of the fact we cant send back email) but what about who sent it.

I can add the sender to the message somewhere. Maybe right under the subject in parenthesis?

Also I think I'm going to put brackets around the subject to set it apart from the rest of the message.

Any other requests? :D

Tried it just now -- I sent an e-mail from Hotmail on my Treo 700w to my Jump phone (Moto v260) -- it works great and came through in seconRAB. I'm on the Pittsburgh system. Thanks much!!

OK, the email address of the sender is now included in the message.

You won't be able to reply :(. It will take some investigation to see if I can get that to work.

ok. h'm..
maybe from beforte the subject?

what about forwarding another address to send messages to the sms4cricket.com one cause that doesn't work.
and is there a way for it to be like an actual text (the subject only on the line and the sender separate or anything yet?)

ok im confused. can't u just send e-mail to your phone using [email protected]? what is the difference? i have been using the mms one to send all of my ringtones to my phone from my aol account with no problem. what is the advantage of [email protected]? the mms nuraber works fine with forwarding, cause i was having my gmail forwarded to my cell before i got my wap capabilities

hgallegos915, I'm not sure you can send an SMS to an email address. I think it can only go to another phone. You can send MMS messages to an email address if your phone supports it.

I have Jump mobile and I did test this for you. I sent myself an e-mail and I got it but it took about 5 minutes. But then if I reply to it, it was going to send it to myself (my phone nuraber). What was the point of that?

Other than that I am severly impressed and thankful. Any chance we are going to get to know how you have accomplished this? And how much do you think you would have to charge if you decided to do so?

[edit]
I did it again and I got the message near immediatly so maybe the first time was just a network glitch.

well my phone doesn't say reply at all, but it is still a great feature to have. and if it said reply, we probably wouldn't be able to since cricket doesn't have email. but thanks

Sorry guys. Cricket changed their text message form a little and I had to update my code to compensate. It's working now.

I also modified it a little to trim whitespace and translate a few HTML entities.

octobclrnts, I was working on the server and it was down a few times. If it was down your message would have been delayed until the server came back up again. Thanks for testing and letting me know! If I do end up charging it will be something like $10/year.

rhotrod23, I'll see if I can't get the reply to work. I think I can get it to work as long as the sender was a phone.

For those wondering how I did it, I set up my mail server to connect to http://mycricket.com/text and post the message through the web interface. :D
