SMS gets bounced from my E50

I got an E50 a couple of days ago, and like it a lot. I have my service with Cingular.

Yesterday, I was sending an SMS for the first time, and I got a message back saying

"1XXXXXXXXXX.Error Invalid Numer. Please re-send using a valid 10-digit mobile number."

The "XXXXXXXXXX" in the text above was the phone number to which I was sending the SMS. I didn't enter the phone number with a "1" at the beginning. So, it seems like the phone is adding a "1" at the beginning of outbound SMS messages.

Is there a way to make it stop that? Thanks.

P.S. If this is a carrier issue, I'm sorry for posting it in the wrong forum.

I'm mildly ashamed of myself for not having figured this out.

I edited the message center I was using for sending the SMS, and removed the +1 from the number. Works fine now.

Silly me.

I am using the E50. My Cingular SMSC is +13123149810 I send all text messages using the +(country code)(city/area code)(number) convention. SMS works fine. Make sure you have the settings correct (like GSM not GPRS).
