This is how I started. I was young, clueless and nobody could tell me anything. Although I was told they were 'bad,' I didn't know anymore than that. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not trying to blame anyone else for that, or rationalize my habit with a sob story. My point is, nobody wakes up and says/thinks "Hey, today I think I'll pick up a habit that will eventually kill me." People don't smoke to annoy you either.
To touch on a few other random points:
I'm very respectful about where and around whom I smoke. I smoke in designated areas; I'm mindful of people who cough, even in public; I smoke out side even at my own house (I have a young child); I don't smoke in my own car why I have non-smoker passengers; I rarely, if ever, smoke at work unless it's my lunch hour.
I know I could stand to save a good bit of money a year if I quit. This has been my major motivation for trying to quit as of late. I've decided to figure out the amount of my I spend each year, quit and apply that money to my stock portfolio.
That was my major problem with this thread; it seems Boycott took a very personal offense to smokers. I just fail to see the logic behind that. Not that it really matters though...
Completely off topic, but I remember you mentioning that you do web development, or are at least capable of it. You might want to check out
www.scriptlance.com it's like an Ebay for development projects. I pick up odd jobs from time to time for fun, a challenge or just an few extra bucks. Maybe it'll be of some use to you.
