Smartphone with no Camera?

I just recently got a job at a financial institution and cannot have a camera phone on the premisis. So there goes my Nokia 6265 for MetroPCS! Anyways, I'm in desperate need of a new phone, but not too familiar with all the smartphones and what not. What I need is this:

1. A plan with unlimited texts (got so used to it with metro, hate feeling guilty sending/recieving texts)
2. Smartphone/PDA/Blackberry (to synch with my email/adress book from outlook)
3. No camera
4. QWERTY Keyboard
5. Speakerphone

What Id like:

1. A slide out keyboard like the Cingular 8125 or T-mobile MVA or sidekick ect. or a handheld...dont really care for slide "up" phones
2. Wifi
3. Microsoft mobile apps (pwerpoint, word)

Any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

First decide which carrier you are going to use. Look at the coverage where you will using the phone - where you live, work, play, travel, etc. Talk to family, friends, co-workers about who they use and how they like it and the coverage. No matter how good or cool or cheap or expensive the phone is, if you don't have coverage, all you have is a paperweight. Then you can pick the phone.

Not many non-camera phones have WiFi. Do you need to edit word documents or just read them?

Not sure what those mean. I think its CDMA though. Its a prepaid wireless company. 50 Bucks got you unlimited long distance/local, unlimited texts & pic msgs, and ulimited web.

Which carrier do they use for service? Makes a big difference in which phone you want to get.

I just looked at their website. I assume you have to get one of their phones to get those rates? I am not sure just any phone will work. Your choice of phones is limited as is their coverage areas. No Smartphones, PPCs or BBs. If it works for you, then great.

I would definitely check with them before buying a non-MetroPCS phone. You could be stuck with an expensive paperweight.

I think you misunderstood me. Im going to switch from MetroPCS to another carrier due to their lack of smartphones. So far, the only two carriers I can find with unlimited text plans are sprint and t-mobile. Im learning more towards t-mobile due to unlocking capabilities. I really like the Treo's. Have their been any past models of any Treo's without a cam (w/ wifi)?

So go back to my original post. Make sure either of those works well where you will use the phone. The pick a phone. Also keep in mind that if you choose Sprint, then you have to have a Sprint phone.

As for the Treo, I cannot recommend it. I had 3 Treo 600s and a 650 and they were all crappola. I do not think any of the current Treos have WiFi. The only that I know is the Cingular 8525.

There are different versions of some of the smartphones out there that have WiFI. I know the European version of the Dash has it - the HTC S-620 (GSM) , Verizon Samsung i730/XV6600, Samsung i320 (GSM) , and I think the HP6920 (GSM) is also.

too bad every single phone on metropcs's website has a camera, because it sounds like you needed the little Kyocera STROBE

My suggestion: BLACKBERRY

Simple. You DON'T have to get a data plan, and all providers will have them (except for MetroPCS)

You'll have a phone that looks kind of cool, fits your profession and usually doesn't have a camera (except for the cool new perl) AND you'll have a keyboard to go nuts in.

Look around for a provider that has all you need.

If you're use to talking a lot on your phone (after all MetroPCS was unlimited, then look for the cheapest plan with the most minutes...hint..the provider starts with a T and ends with "mobile")

That or get a PDA for your PDA stuff and get a camera-less MetroPCS off ebay and keep your unlimited minute plan!

(Option 3 Put some duck tape over your camera and tell the security guard your phone is broken and the duck tape keeps it together )

If you go tmobile, either a blackberry or the nokia e61 - youo could the the nokia communicator version with no camera but I think you would be better suited to either a blackberry or the e61. The e61 looks ulgy as hell, but it's still very good - battery, web browsing, ect everyone says the e61 is unmatched. The backberry is a blackberry - every business professional knows what they are.

With sprint, the blackberry is also just about your only bet - all their smartphones have cameras. Of course if I recall correctly with a blackberry plan you only need to pay $5 for unlimited texts.. or was it included? it was included for some special plans, but most people need to spent the $5.

Of course you can do the old method of having someone attach a metal plate to the back of another smartphone - then the phone no longer has a camera.

I also agree with the blackberry, tried and true w/o a camera and fits everything that you have mentioned and the price for them is not bad at all...you can even pick up refurb's for cheap.

I'll throw another vote in for the e61. It's an incredible phone, very full featured. You may have to snag one up before the e61i comes out with a camera.
