Smartphone vs PPC phone

I've been waiting for the Samsung i760 PDA phone but have to admit that i like the slightly smaller size of the also rumored to be soon released VX5800 (Libra). I've seen a few comments around the web that make me want to ask ... is a "smartphone" like the Libra likely to have a better phone portion than a PPC phone like the i760 or VX6800? Or is this generation of equipment likely to be pretty much identical in terms of phone performance (getting & holding the cell signal, good outgoing audio quality, good incoming audio quality, good Bluetooth)?

I want the enhanced contacts management, the calendaring, email, web browsing, etc, etc, etc ... but ... I need it to be a good phone too.

They'll tend to be about the same. Stay away from Verizon's "regular" phones if you need decent contact/calendar management and/or the ability to sync to your PC.

The Libra is more phone than PDA, but it'll do the web browsing and contacts management you want, as well as being a decent phone.

I prefer the Smartphone edition. It is much more suited to using one-handed and is very full-featured. You can use a lot of the same applications that the PPC version uses, but obviously not all.

Its also much cheaper but the main motivation in my case is size. PPC phones are always bulkier than smartphones, although that looks to change with the HTC Libra/Titan combination.

Thank you for your comments. In my book, less expensive is good! Size is an issue too, although three of the four models I'm currently watching are all pretty darn close in size (within millimeter or two of each other) - SCH-i760, UTC 5800 (Libra) & XV6800 (Mogul).
