Hello all. I am looking for a cell phone recommendation, but am admittedly a bit clueless about the various networks and types of phones available, so I had hoped someone here might be able to put me on track.
I am presently stuck about midway through a 3 year contract with Bell (I reside in Edmonton) using a motorola flip phone that i have come to hate. I would like to purchase a new (or new to me, not opposed to used) phone outright to avoid having to renew my bell contract.
Several of my friends have blackberry's, and I think that is the route I would like to go. The email, web, and instant messenger features seem pretty great. Furthermore, I would prefer a qwerty keypad to any other type of keypad. Pressing keys multiple times for a single letter has really grown tiresome. I am however, rather hard on phones, and need something that can handle short drops and sudden stops without falling into pieces. This makes me think purchasing the latest BB (the 9700?) for 600 bucks might be a rather poor investment on my part.
So, to summarize:
-Full QWERTY pad
-Compatible on bell network (GSM now I believe, should be non issue?)
-Not too fragile
-Best phone per dollar spent (bang for buck)
-Prefer BB for messenger, but I won't ignore other better options
-Don't need the latest, modest is fine.
Sorry this is so wordy, but I really appreciate the advice. I'm phonetarded.
PS: I will need to purchase a Bell SIM card for GSM phones, yes? Can they move my number?
