smartphone or pocketpc?

I am interested in getting a single device to handle my phone/pim/file/mp3/internet needs. I have been looking at pocket pc phone devices like the htc wizard, but I am curious if a smartphone might be able to meet my needs.

From what I've been able to learn most smartphones should be able to meet the following needs, but please let me know if I'm wrong:

* POP3 Email Account management
* Internet Surfing
* Synching with Outlook Contacts/Schedule/Email

What I also need and am not sure about is:

* Mp3 player with expandable memory
* Use pocket streets or another mapping program to get around cities on
business trips
* Viewing and Editing Word and Excel documents (basic editing is all I need)
* Synching documents with my computer

I know for a fact that windows smartphones do not allow the last 2 items, but I'm not knowledgable enough to know if there are 3rd party programs that will allow you to manage documents on a smartphone.

Any input would be extremely helpful.

I recommend the Sierra Wireless VOQ A11. I have the device, and my original intention behind it's purchase was similar to yours - to consolidate all devices into one, and I think the VOQ does that well.
