What I'm talking about is sheer brainpower. What presidents were the most intelligent, and where might Obama rank? My own top-10: 1) Thomas Jefferson: Incomparable brilliance, a man giften in philosophy, writing, architecture, etc. 2) Teddy Roosevelt: Nobel prize winner was a naturalist who spoke several languages and wrote numerous books.3) Abraham Lincoln: Savvy westerner who exemplified wisdom.4) James Madison: Father of Constitution was a fantastic philosophic genius. 5) John Quincy Adams: Not a great president, but a first rate legal and diplomatic mind. 6) Jimmy Carter: Also an unsuccessful president, but a nuclear engineer who had an off-the-charts IQ. 7) JFK: A great, nimble mind.8) Woodrow Wilson: PhD in Political Science and a visionary leader. 9) Barack Obama: Exceptionally bright and a fine writer.10) FDR: Not a genius, but a wise man with the gift of outstanding temperament. Others of note: William H. Taft, Bill Clinton, Richard Nixon, James Monroe, John Adams, Herbert Hoover. What do you guys think?Obama has written two VERY good books. That's why I call him a fine writer.I ranked James Madison at #4. I guess you don't read very well.Like I said, I'm talking about brainpower/IQ/intelligence. That's why I can rank Obama even though he just became president. Whether he does well or not, he is exceptionally intelligent. Please don't bother saying Reagan. He was a successful president, especially in conservatives' eyes, but in terms of sheer intelligence he ranks very low.George Washington was reasonably smart, and certainly a great president, but he wasn't exactly an intellectual. He relied heavily on Madison and Jefferson to do the intellectual heavy lifting. In terms of sheer smarts, he probably ranks in the top-25, similar to Eisenhower or George H.W. Bush (the senior Bush).I meant Hamilton. Washington relied on Alexander Hamilton, who was one of the true geniuses of early America.
